This illustration appeared on the cover of Hugh Clevely's story, The Night Club Mystery, The Sexton Blake Library #285, Amalgamated Press, 1953.
Created at the end of the Victorian era, Sexton Blake soon became one of the most popular fictional characters of the 20th Century. He starred in thousands of adventure stories written by more than two hundred authors and published in countless papers, magazines and comics. Blake starred in his own long-running title, The Sexton Blake Library, from 1915 to 1968 which ran to five volumes. He has also appeared in stage plays, radio dramas, films and television serials.
